We are a retired couple married in 2007.  We met on Match.com through our shared love of travel.  Since our marriage we have done a number of group tours with companies such as Overseas Adventure Travel, Lindblad Expeditions, Odysseys Unlimited, Vantage Deluxe World Travel, Windstar, and Road Scholar.  While we enjoy small group travel, we are ready to try some different options.  We became inspired by an article written by Lynn Martin describing the “Home Free” lifestyle she and her husband, Tim, enjoyed.  We each read the article independently and both came to the conclusion we wanted to give it a try.

However, we just couldn’t bring ourselves to go homeless; so we opted for a modified plan.  In 2013, we sold our four bedroom home and moved into a two bedroom condo in Pawleys Island on the SC coast.  This gave us a home base that was relatively maintenance free, was as relaxing as being on vacation, but still allowed us to keep some of our cherished possessions.  Our game plan is to enjoy Pawleys Island in the spring and fall when it is uncrowded and the weather is beautiful and travel in the summer when it is crowded and the winter when it is cold.

We each have two children and we have five grandchildren between us ranging in age from 1 year to 19 years.  They are supportive of our plan.  Of necessity, we have no pets and no house plants.

We both enjoy playing bridge and attending cultural events such as the symphony and plays.  Our musical tastes are diverse ranging from folk music to classical music and from country to jazz.  We both enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and kayaking.  Indoors we like to go to museums.  Our general interests include art and history.  Susan also likes to play Mahjong and knit while Bruce likes photography and genealogy.Miyajima, Itsukushima Shinto Shrine with Floating Torii Gate

We created this web site so our friends and family can see where we are and learn what we are up to.  We hope you enjoy the pictures and the stories of our adventures.  We further hope that you will check out our itinerary and come visit us if you are in the same area we are.  We expect there will be problems along the  way, but we know these will be dwarfed by the good times as we explore this wide world we live in.

  1. Hi Susan, it was a pleasure seated next to you today and hearing all about your travels. What a wonderful life you and your husband have. I was wondering if you could give me the name of the place that you stay in in San Miquel de Allende. I did look it up and yes it looks beautiful, but if you don’t know where to look, all you see are hotels. The area that you stay in sounds so nice and relaxing, would really love to get more information on it.
Great seeing you again and I may stop by on Mondays for Mahjong. Hope to hear from you–Thank You Diane Hague

  2. Hi Bruce and Susan,
You are friends of Kaye and Larry, who we just met her in SMA a few days ago. They found us through our blog. I found your blog from Kay’s FB posting. We went the whole way over four years ago, and although Vancouver is officially our home town we have had no home for all that time. Going to look a bit into your blog now.
    Cheers, Alison
